Probate and estates

After a loss, the paperwork should not be the hard part. We handle the court, the creditors, the accounts, and the family, and we tell you at the start what it will cost.

What we handle

Everything between the loss and the last distribution.

Formal and informal probate in Essex County and across Massachusetts. Trust administration for trustees who did not ask for the job. Estate tax returns, creditor claims, and the sale of a family home when that is what the estate needs.

If you are the personal representative, we work for you. If you are a beneficiary who is not getting answers, we can help with that too.

  • Informal and formal probate
  • Trust administration
  • Massachusetts estate tax returns
  • Real estate sales from an estate
  • Will contests and beneficiary disputes

Questions clients ask first

Do we need probate at all?

Not always. Assets held in a trust, joint accounts, and accounts with beneficiaries pass outside probate. We can tell you in one meeting whether a filing is needed.

How long does probate take?

Informal probate can be opened in a few weeks. Most estates are settled within nine to fourteen months, mostly waiting on the creditor period and tax clearances.

What does it cost?

Most informal probates are handled for a flat fee between $3,500 and $6,000 depending on the estate. Formal and contested matters are estimated in writing.
