Custody and parenting

The best parenting plans are specific, realistic, and written by parents who were guided to agreement rather than pushed into court. That is where we start.

What we handle

Plans that hold up on a Tuesday night.

Custody, parenting time, and decision making for married and unmarried parents. Modifications when work, school, or a new home changes the picture. Relocation cases, which are among the hardest in family law and where early advice matters most.

We prepare every client for the Probate and Family Court’s expectations, including the parent education program and the guardian ad litem process when one is appointed.

  • Parenting plans and schedules
  • Legal and physical custody
  • Modifications
  • Relocation
  • Grandparent visitation

Questions clients ask first

What does a judge look at?

The best interests of the child: stability, each parent’s involvement to date, the child’s schooling and community, and each parent’s ability to cooperate with the other.

At what age can a child choose?

There is no magic age in Massachusetts. A child’s preference carries more weight as they get older, but it is one factor among many.

Can we change the plan later?

Yes, when there is a material change in circumstances. Many families do. We draft plans with review points built in.

Your children come first. So does getting this right.
